      FARRIES, Robert, Sr. (d.), b. Dumfries, Scot. 1802; d. Mar. 21st, 1885, age 83, came to Canada with his family in 1843. In 1846 he set. in Eramosa, purchasing 100 acres, lot 2, con. 5. The family were farmers in Scot.; the father of Robert, Sr. whose name was also Robert, farming 700 acres there. The late Robert, Sr. m. Janet Patterson in 1833, who d. on Mar. 19th, 1883, age 69. Issue: Dr. Robert, Jr., b. 1835, was educated at Rockwood Academy, Eramosa, and graduated in N.Y. City; Dr. Adam b. 1838, was a surgeon in the U.S. Army during the Civil War, and afterwards practised in Orange Co., N.Y.; Rev. Dr. Francis W., b. 1841, is a Pres. minister in North Carolina; Mary Ann, m. Rev. Wm. Caven, Manitoba; Elizabeth Neilson, m. Rev. D. Strachan, Guelph; George b. 1846, is a successful farmer at Paris Plains, Ont.; John, b. 1848, is a commission merchant, Rockwood; Helen, Jane (d.); Matthew, b. 1852, and Mungo b. 1856, run the old Eramosa homestead, and make a specialty of thoroughbred Shorthorns and Clydesdale horses. In the latter they have taken many top prizes.
