REA, John , b. Co. Antrim, Ire. 1833, where he was raised and educated. He came to Canada in 1856 and set. in Eramosa. The following year, Isabella Reid, to whom he had become engaged in Ireland, joined him and they were married. They set. on the farm of 100 acres which he had purchased, lot 30, con. 4, Eramosa, which he cleared, and at this old home they are at this writing passing the sunset of their long and useful lives, respected by the community, of which they have been active members for fifty years. Both John Rea and his wife have taken a deep interest in church matters, he having been an Elder of the Presbyterian church for thirty-five years. In politics he is a Liberal. Of their family: Dr. James Rea was a graduate of Victoria College, and also of the College of Physicians and Surgeons, with honors, in 1886. He became a leading physician in Toronto. He was also active in religious matters, being one of the Managers of the Y. M. C. A., as well as one of the Managers of Chalmers' Pres. Church, Toronto. He was a surgeon in the last Riel Rebellion. He d. in 1895, age 34 years. His widow and two children, Stella and Lillian survive him. The second son, William is retired at San Diego, Cal., and David I. also resides there, while two daughters Mrs. Douglas McGregor and Mrs. Geo. Foote, live in Eramosa. and Mrs. William Foote resides in Fergus.
