Marriage record of Kjetil Kristoffersson and Ingeborg Torgeirsdotter
Marriage record of Kjetil Kristoffersson and Ingeborg Torgeirsdotter
At the top of the right page (page 805), under the heading of Year 1805, the engagement of first time bachelor Kjetil Kristoffersson and maiden Ingeborg Torgeirsdotter was announced. They shall go live on Åsterudeie? farm (in Modum parish). The announcement was made on "Mariæ bebudelses dag" or Lady Day, which in 1805 was on March 25.

The record is hard to read and it is not clear if Åsterudeie (in Modum parish) is the right farm mentioned here. I couldn`t make out the farm name for Jakob Kjetilsson. The marriage took place "lang fredag" (Good Friday), which was April 12, 1805, in Nykirke (church) in Modum parish. Bestmen were: Jakob Kjetilsson and Kristian Kristiansson Sterkeby.

Record of Kjetil Kristoffersson and Ingeborg Torgeirsdotter moving to Eiker Parish, Buskerud County, Norway
On page 603, entries 10 & 11 state that "Ektefolk" (married couple) Kjetil Xstoffersson Bjørndalen and "hustru" (wife) arrived in Eiker parish with written permission (certificate) on April 12, 1815. Their occupation was "husfolk" (cotter who worked for the owner of the farm in return for (small) pay and a house and generally a small piece of land for their own use) on the farm Daler, in Eiker parish. Their former residence was in Sigdal parish.

Unfortunately the record does not list their children. Also there was no record of them leaving Sigdal parish.
1865 Census - Bakke local parish, Eker parish, Buskerud County, Norway
1865 Census - Bakke local parish, Eker parish, Buskerud County, Norway
The 1865 census record for the Daler farm, Eiker parish lists the family as living on Oppgiverplassen, which is a part of the Daler farm, in the local parish of Bakke, of the head parish of Eiker in Buskerud County, Norway. It lists Kari Kjetilsdotter, in family possition as "husmor" (housewife, female head of the household), occupation "strandsitjarar (person who rented a house, on a larger farm, near or at the coastline), it gives her marital status as a widow and it says her birth place was in Eiker parish (though we know she was actually born in Sigdal parish). Nils Jakob Nilsson, in family position as Kari`s son, occupation "jernverksarbeidar" (works with iron works or iron mill), his marital status was single and he was born in Eiker parish. Ingeborg Torgeirsdotter, family possition as "innerst" (renter or lodger on a farm), occupation "fattiglem" (pauper), her marital status was a widow and it states she was born in Eiker parish.
    Death record of Ingeborg Torgeirsdotter
    Death record of Ingeborg Torgeirsdotter
Two death records are posted for Ingeborg Torgeirsdotter. The two records vary with respect to age listed at time of death. This record is the official church record (for Eiker parish) of her death. On right hand page entry #129 states that "fattiglem" (pauper) Ingeborg Torgeirsdotter died April 26, 1867 and was buried May 8, 1867 in the Bakke church graveyard, in Eiker parish. Her age at the time of death was 91 years and her residence was on the Daler"eie" farm, in Eiker parish.

There are two death records posted for Ingeborg Torgeirsdotter. In this second record, on the left hand page, entry #22 states that "enkja" (the widow) Ingeborg Torgeirsdotter Daler"eie", age 85 years, died April 26, 1867 and was buried May 8, 1867. This record is from the Bakke Church parish records. Age listed at time of death in the two records vary.

  • Notes  Born:
    • A birth record for Ingeborg Torgeirsdotter would assist in sorting out her age at death but such a record has yet to be located. Her record of marriage from 1805 did not indicate the farm she came from or her age. Her death records give two separate ages suggesting birth years of either about 1776 or about 1782. The 1865 suggests a birth year of abt 1780.

In the 1865 Census it states that Ingeborg Torgeirsdotter was born in Eiker parish. This is not necessarily reliable because the census record lists the wrong parish for Kari`s birth place. But since the census record lists Eiker parish as Ingeborg's birth place, it is likely that she was born in the general area, possibly in Eiker, Sigdal or Modum parishes.
