    Notes:

Vol I A Biographical History of Waterloo Township and other townships of the county : being a history of the early settlers and their descendants, mostly all of Pennsylvania Dutch origin..., Ezra E. Eby, (Berlin, Ontario, 1895), 751

Anthony Hallman, "ancestor of the numerous family of that name in Pennsylvania and other parts of the United States, and Canada, was born in Switzerland about the year 1714. He came to Pennsylvania at a very early date and settled among his co-religionists (the Mennonites) in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, where we find him, in 1745, reckoned as one of the well-to-do farmers. The precise date when he left his native home is not known; it may have been as early as 1724, but the cause that impelled this old ancestor to emigrate undoubtedly was on account of religious persecution which raged in his native home at that time. All efforts made to gain information in regard to his family proved almost fruitless. We know that his wife's given name was Mary but of her maiden name nothing is known. Neither do we know the number of children born unto him. One son was named Benjamin."
