 | Fort Chadbourne Enlisted Barracks The building on the right has been restored. When Daniel was stationed there, he, and up to 49 other troopers slept in the building. The ruins on the left are what was left of the barracks before restoration (think before and after). The officer quarters were on the other side of the parade ground. The fort commander had a stand-alone 3 room house. The post doctor and junior officers shared a duplex like building adjacent to the commander’s house. The Butterfield Mail stop manager slept in a separate building that a served as the stage stop, tack room and his quarters. Cooking and toilet facilities were exterior to the sleeping quarters for everyone.
Notice the grass is relatively green because the area had flooding rains a week or so prior to our arrival. The arial photo of the parade grounds is more typical (brown) for most of the year.

 | Fort Chadbourne Museum The site has a welcome center, which contains a small theater and the display area, plus gift shop. Adjacent to the welcome center is a covered party pavilion that can be used for large groups, meals or entertainment. Beyond the pavilion is the actual fort, which is about half restored. Mr Richards, on whose ranch the fort sits, said he'd likely leave it in its current condition, so visitors can compare the restored and original deterioration.
