421 Excerpt from "Reuben Bowman, His Family" by Fred Bowman 1948

GEORGE HOLLINGER was born and lived at Misau, a village or district in Bavaria, Germany. He was first married to Charlotte Trautman by whom he had three children, namely: Elizabeth, George and Charlotte, all of whom came to Canada; Elizabeth in 1848 and George and Charlotte in 1850. Elizabeth was married to Joseph Jacob Geiger, George to Katherina Besserer and Charlotte to John Schaus. After the death of his first wife, George Hollinger married Margaret Schneider, by whom he had five children, all of whom came to Canada about the year 1854. Philip married Catherine Hoffman, Caroline married Jacob Schaus and lived in Hespeler, Jacob died in infancy or remained in Germany, Michael married Anna Bramm and lived in Bridgeport and Eva married Christian Ohliger and lived in Elmira. George Hollinger was a cooper by trade and all of his sons followed the same occupation. He died in 1862.

424 Exeter Times - June 15, 1927

George Kellett died June 15, 1927 at aged 67 yrs. 2 months, 3 days. He was born in Yorkshire, England, and came to Canada as a lad. He worked on the railroad for a time, and later for farmers in the area.

He was the husband of Mary Elizabeth Cornish, who survives, and the father of a son, John, and a daughter, Mrs. Baker, of Windsor. A son, George Edward Kellett, paid the supreme sacrifice in World War 1 in 1917.

SNELL

Died in Hospital. Mr. William Snell who has been a patient in Victoria Hospital in London for some time died on Wednesday. Mr. Snell was a former hostler at the Central Hotel for many years. He is survived by his widow and one daughter, Mrs. Elmer Keller, of town. The funeral will be held from the home of Mr. Thomas Elliott.

SNELL

The funeral of the late William Snell, aged 72 years, who died in Victoria Hospital, London, on Wednesday of last week, was held on Friday from the home of Mr. Thomas Elliott. Interment was in Exeter cemetery.

Mr. Snell had been ailing all winter and had been in the hospital about six weeks.

He was born in Rodgerville, north of Exeter, and had been a life-long resident of this community. He is survived by his bereaved widow, whose maiden name was Susanna Cornish, and one daughter, Mrs. Keller, of town.

The funeral service on Friday was conducted by Salvation Army officers. Relatives were present at the funeral from Clinton and Prospect Hill.

Percy Hewitt Dies After Heart Attack

Percy Hewitt, died Wednesday a.m. but felt well through the holidays. He was born at Farquhar (on Thames Rd. between Exeter and Russelldale.) and was a resident of Exeter for past 32 years. He was 12 years employed with the Department of Highways as patrolman on Highways 4, 83, and 84, and was considered a very capable employee.

He is survived by his wife, Priscilla Cornish, 3 sons, [...], 2 daughters, [...]. One brother, Austin, of Detroit, and 3 sisters, Mrs. Ella Lamport, Mrs. Hector Rowcliffe and Mrs. Charles Godbolt(of London, Usborne and Exeter respectively). Burial was in Exeter Cemetery.

Mr. Thomas Cornish, a life-long resident of Usborne Twp., and for the last 35 years a resident of Exeter, died Friday, Feb. 7, 1941, in his 69th year, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Wm. Lutman. He was a native of Usborne Twp., and had been ailing for over a year. His wife, Sarah Ellen Mills, died five years ago.

He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. W. Lutman; one son, Alvin; 2 grandchildren, Peter and Irene Lutman; 2 brothers, Fred and Emerson. 3 sisters, Mrs. Susannah Snell, Mrs. George Kellett and Miss Sarah Cornish, all predeceased.

Bearers were Messrs. M. Amy, H. Bierling, J. Kydd, R. McInnes, Ed Coombs and Wm. Smith. Interment was in Exeter Cemetery.

It is our sad duty to announce the death of Mrs. Thomas Cornish, who died on Sept. 7, 1935 aged 62 years. She was the former Sarah Ellen Mills, and was a native of Devonshire. She came to Canada aged 14 years with her mother. They lived in Blanshard Twp. and Exeter. She married Mr. Cornish about 40 years ago. They farmed in Usborne township, and then lived in Exeter.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Lutman (Rhoda Irene Cornish); a son Alvin; two brothers, Harry Mills, of London, and Fred Mills, of Windsor. Also a half-brother, Frank Cornish, of Windsor and a half-sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Rowcliffe, of Windsor.

Obituary of George Cornish

George Cornish, of Exeter, died on Jan. 19, 1917 aged 76 years, 1 month and 19 days. He came to Usborne Twp. from Devonshire, England nearly 70 years ago when he was 8 years of age.

His parents settled on a bush farm 2 1/2 miles south of Elimville. He farmed on his own at Sunshine and later to the Thames Road where his wife died ten years ago.

He had been a particularly healthy man until struck with cancer, and he died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William Snell. He is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Snell and Mrs. Kellet of Elimville; 3 sons, Thomas, Fred and Emerson of Exeter.

The funeral took place to Exeter Cemetery Sunday afternoon.

Daniel Schlichter, "the eldest son of Henry and Barbara Schlichter, was born March 17th, 1812. He was married to Elizabeth, daughter of Peter and Veronica (Souder) Huber. She was born October 28th, 1811, and died July 19th, 1882. They resided in Blenheim Township, Oxford County, Ontario, about three miles south-west of New Dundee, where he died August 2nd, 1845. Their family consisted of seven children.

Aaron Biehn, "was born March 16th, 1814. He was married to Hannah, daughter of Christian and Magdalena (Shantz) Schneider, May 8th, 1838. She was born March 8th, 1815, and died September 12th, 1884. They resided on his father's and grandfather's farm a mile west of Doon where he still has his home. Their family consisted of nine children.

Benjamin Martin, "twin brother to Joseph and the eighth son of Peter and Anna (Zimmerman) Martin, was born in Earl Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, December 4th, 1811. He was in his eighth year when he came to Canada. On October 20th, 1835, he was married to Mary, daughter of Dennis Devitt and sister to the late Barnabas Devitt of Waterloo. She was born August 30th, 1815, and died June 28th, 1848. On March 6th, 1849, he was again married to Mary, daughter of Abraham and Veronica (Shantz) Biehn. She was born September 30th, 1816. Soon after his first marriage he moved on lot No. 20, German Company's Tract, about three miles north-west of Waterloo. Here he has resided ever since. The farm is now owned by his son, Moses. He has had a family of nine children, six with his first wife and three with his second wife.
