| Baptism record of Sigvart Olson Seward Peterson was born Sigvart Olson on the farm Hekseberg, Sørum parish. On the left side of the page, entry #26 it states:
Born February 11, 1863 and baptised April 6, 1863 in Frogner church, Sørum parish, Sigvart Olson, was an illegitimate child born to "pike" (maiden/never married) Karen Nilsdotter Hekseberg and "ungkar" (bachelor) Ole Pederson Heksebergeie.
At the far right of this record it is asking "for illegitimate children, who reported this status: either the child's mother, or which known and trustworthy member of the Parish". It looks like a A. Andersson reported this but what is written in front of his name is not determined.

| 1865 census - Family of Ole Pederson and Karen Nielsdotter The census of 1865 records Ole Pederson and Karen Nielsdotter living on the farm Myrvold, Sørum parish, Akershus county. Under family position Ole is listed as "husfar" (head of the household) and Karen as 'his wife'. Under occupation, Ole is listed as "husmann med jord" ( tenant farmer, crofter with a small plot of land). Karen, Sigvart and Adolf were all born in Sørum parish and Ole was born in the Hadeland district (Hadeland is a district in Oppland county, and consists of the parishes of Gran, Jevnaker and Lunner.).

| Record of family of Ole Pederson leaving Sørum parish for America in 1868 They were living on the farm Refsum and left the parish on April 18, 1868. On the right side of the page near the bottom entry#s 17, 18, 19 & 20 it states:
'Reported Date of Departure' 'Age' 'To What Place Moving to'
April 18, 1868 Ole Pederson Refsumeie born Sept.7, 1833 America
Karen Nilsdotter "wife" born July 6, 1840 "
Syvart Olson "their child" born Feb. 11, 1863 "
Adolf Olson " born April 21, 1865 " |
| Passengers aboard the ship Victoria in 1868 The family of Ole Pederson and the family of Kristine Pedersdatter are listed as passengers aboard the Victoria.
They left the city of Christiania (the name for Oslo, Norway at that time) on April 29, 1868 on the bark "Victoria" and arrived in Quebec on July 16, 1868. The family of Ole Pederson and Karen Nilsdotter are entry #s 164, 165, 166, and 167. Their residence was listed as Kristiania(Oslo)/Sørum. The parish of Sørum is just north of Oslo, so it is understandable they named both areas.
Also note the four names above Ole Pederson. They are also from Kristiania/Sørum. Further investigation reveals that this family is the brother-in-law and sister of Ole Pederson.

Printed September 7, 1944 in the Cavalier County Republican:
SEWARD PETERSON FUNERAL IS HELD MONDAY
Outstanding Hope Township Pioneer Passes Away at Home September 2.
Funeral services were held Monday at the Vang Free Lutheran church for Seward Peterson, prominent pioneer resident of Hope township, who passed away Saturday morning, September 2, 1944, at his home.
The early day community leader had been in failing health for about eight years and was critically ill for several days before death came.
The services were in charge of Rev. A. C. Hanson of Minneapolis at the home and at the church. Pall-bearers who carried the remains to the grave in the Vang cemetery were Edwin, Lawrence, Lester and Leonard Peterson, Ole K. Olson and Ernest Olson.
Seward, son of Olaf and Karen Peterson, was born February 11, 1863, in Norway. He emigrated with his parents in 1870. The family stopped for a short time in Manitoba and settled at Pembina, where they lived for 12 years before they moved to Mountain to make their home for five more years before they homesteaded in Hope township in 1887.
He was married March 28, 1888, to Anna Olson, another Hope township pioneer and they have made their home continuously in the same community.
Eight children survive with their mother. They are Mrs. Oscar Braaten of Abbey, Sask., who came to attend the funeral, Mrs. D. J. Taylor of Toronto, Ont., Mrs. N. S. Thompson of Abbey, Sask., Mrs. Dave Johnson of Shackleton, Sask., Mrs. Palmer Soli of Langdon, Herman and Alvin Peterson of Vang and Alfred Peterson of Langdon.
Three sisters and four brothers also survive. They are Mrs. Sam Braaten of California, Mrs. S. Quallie of Brinsmade, Mrs. A. Curry of Saskatchewan, Peter Peterson of Windom, Minn., Ole Peterson of the Homen vicinity and Fred and Charles of Vang. Thirty-three grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren also survive.
In the earliest years, Mr. Peterson was widely known as an outstanding community builder. Besides his own farming operations he always found time to be of help to his neighbors and community. As a very capable butcher, for many years he did practically all of the farm butchering in the community. His brother Adolph, since deceased, and he were among the earliest custom threshers. Mr. Peterson was considered one of the best steam engineers in the area and was issued a state engineer's license for 26 seasons. He operated a lumber mill on the Big Pembina river for a number of years and served often as an auctioneer.
Despite his countless activities, he found time for a wild life hobby and through it became an outstanding authority on wild game animals and birds.
Always civic minded, he served his township in practically every official capacity. As a pioneer justice of the peace for 24 years, he presided at countless hearings and justice court trails. He served on the district school board for 30 years and as a township supervisor for nine years.
Testifying to his civic service and the high regard in which he was held, the Hope township board this week issued the following statement. "We take this means to express our sincere regrets upon the passing of our esteemed and faithful friend, Seward Peterson, who served so many years on the Hope school and township boards. We extend our sympathy to Mrs. Peterson and her family." The statement was signed by all of the board members, including Oscar Mostad, chairman, Robert Thompson, Morris Torgerson and Martin Danielson, clerk."
(The log cabin built by Seward and Anna has been moved to the museum at DRESDEN, ND.)
