- Between 1868 and 1906 the family farmed near Royalton. In 1906 they moved to the village of Weyauwega. After Adam died in 1927, Emma went to live with daughter Adella Axtell.

Word was received Friday the 17th of July by relatives about the death of Emma Ballard , that AM. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Adella Axtell of the town of Waupaca, where she had made her home since the death of her husband. Emma Jane Baker Ballard was the daughter of Simon and Emily Baker. She was 83 years of age and the widow of the late Adam Monroe Ballard, who passed away 25 Aug 1927.
The deceased had been in failing health for several years.
She was born in Wauwatosa,Wisconsin,September 1, 1848. On October 17, 1868 she was married to Adam Monroe Ballard. Following their marriage the young couple moved to their farm home in the town of Royalton, where they resided until about 25 years ago when the family moved to Weyauwega.
Six children were born to this couple, Adella, May, Royal, Leslie, and Floyd, of whom 3 passed away. The surviving relatives are one daughter, Mrs. Adella Axtell of the town of Waupaca, and two sons, Arthur Ballard of Weyauwega and Leslie Ballard of Christmas, Arizona, one sister, Mrs. Ella Baker Farley of Waupaca, and one brother Volney Baker of Matoon. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the family lot in Oakwood Cemetery.. The Pall bearers were Clifford Farley, Donovan Ballard, and Mr. Baker, all grandsons and nephews of the deceased.
