Notes |
- From The Pine Hill Farm, West Gwillimbury Township, published by Tecumseth and West Gwillimbury Historical Society:
William (Red Billy) was very tall like all the Armstrongs, with white skin and red-gold hair. He was the local bandmaster, musical and well read. He was also known as a 'powerful curser.' It is told of him he used to read Plato til dawn and then go out and milk the cows. He was known as "Billy at the Hill" to distinguish him from his cousin, Black Billy in town (Bradford). When Red Billy died his wife Dora Algeo [an error, should read Dora Hastings] (ward of Squire John Armstrong) used to mourn that she had to take care of not only her old mother-in-law with two teeth but also those old drunken reprobates, her husbands brothers, as well as her three sons, Lewis, Henry (Harry) and John (Jack).
