- The Beaver Family of Puslinch Township
By Edna (Beaver) Robertson 1969
MARY BEAVER - daughter of Peter Beaver (I)
According to a Wellington County Atlas of 1906, Mary married a Mr. Moatz and moved to Huron County. No further information seemed to be available on this family until my Uncle Herb Beaver remembered that his Dad had a first cousin, Henry Motz I, who lived on the present Maurice Haist farm, and he would be Mary’s son. Was he an only child? Mrs. Mack’s records show that Henry Motz I bought lot 10, concession 4 (M. Haist’s farm) in 1881 from Jane Bissett and sold it in 1902 to Ezra Haist.
When Henry Motz II died in 1952, his obituary stated that he had been born in Morriston and came as a child with his parents to Crediton. This makes one wonder whether Mary ever left Morriston.
Henry Motz (I) , born May 10, 1834, died Feb. 13, 1913. He is buried in the Crediton Cemetery. His family are of the opinion that he was married three times. The name of the first wife is unknown. Apparently she died a year after marriage. His second wife was Wilhelmina Schneff, born Sept. 28, 1837, died Aug. 18, 1881. Eight children.
