One of Unionville’s general stores was built about 1850 on the west side of Main St. Typical of many other buildings in the village it was clad in board and batten. This store was run by Abner Summerfeldt, and later Charles H. Stiver.
The house at 202 Main St. was built c.1907 by Charles H. Stiver. It was equipped with an indoor toilet, (the first in the village), gas lighting from gas produced in the basement, and “running water” which was operated by a windmill which pumped water to a rooftop cistern.
Charles H. Stiver served as Township Clerk from 1899-1905, and with his brother Francis, also owned the grain elevators on Station lane.
