William John "Jack" Leckie
LECKIE, William John "Jack" - It is with great sadness that the family of William John (Jack) Leckie announces his passing on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at the age of 82. Jack was the beloved husband of the late Kelowna "Pach" Leckie. He is lovingly remembered by [...], his companion of ten years. Jack was the much loved father of [...]. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren [...]. Jack was survived by his brother [...]. Predeceased by his parents Robert Leckie (M.M.) and Matilda (nee Boettger), brothers Oliver Wurm, Roy "Red" Leckie and sister Jean Curran and infant grandson Connor. "Gentleman Jack" was a well known professional hockey player in both Europe and Canada. He was an avid outdoorsman all of his life, enjoying hunting and fishing. He served as the Chairman of the North Bay Chapter of the Certified General Accountants Association of Ontario and was a member of the Board of Gorvenors of that orgaization. He was the Executive Vice President and Operations Manager of Alger Leckie Associates Limited, Executive Vice President of CKAT-FM Broadcasters Limited, Executive Vice President of Hal- Ger Industial Construction Company Limited, proprietor of Leckie Accounting Services and operator of Kentucky Fried Chicken for many years. Jack was the Past Chairman and proud member of the North Bay Sports Hall of Fame and organized monthly luncheons for the "Ex-Greats of the Athletic World" sports fraternity. He supported and coached minor sports in the City of North Bay for over five decades. More recently he became a patron of the Titans Swim Team and of Nipissing University Mens Hockey. He founded the Leckie Award that is presented annually to the defenceman who best combines athletcics and academics. Family receiving friends at the McGUINTY FUNERAL HOME, Sunday 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 p.m. A memorial service will be conducted at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 23,150 First Avenue West, Monday, at 11:00 a.m. As expressions of sympathy, donations to KidSport North Bay would be gratefully appreciated by the family.
