      SCARROW, James , is a son of William and Elizabeth Scarrow, both b. in England. William Scarrow was b. in Suffolk, Eng., in 1803, and at the age of twenty years enlisted in the British Army, serving three years, when he was stricken with partial paralysis, and was invalided home. About three of four years later he came to Canada and purchased Thomas McCullough's goodwill in the present Scarrow farm of 150 acres lot 16, con. 3, Eramosa, for which he later paid the Crown and received the deed. He cleared this farm , and he and his wife lived here until their death. Issue: William, in Owen Sound; James, on the old homestead, Earamosa; Josiah, Sullivan Tp.; Mariah (d.), Amabel Tp.; and David, in the N.-W.

      James m. Emma Kemp. Issue: Mrs. James Oakes, in Eramosa; Maggie, Mrs. George Stovel, in Acton; Philander, Mrs. Emma Robertson, in Guelph City, and William C. (d.).

      Philander m. Miss Ramsay, and runs the farm, his father having retired. From the beginning the family have been held in high esteem, as one of the substantial pioneer families of Eramosa.
