...had been a direct descendant of the United Empire Loyalists who had fled to Canada in 1773 when the thirteen British colonies, which later formed the United States of America, broke away from the British Empire. The Loyalists were forced to leave their homes and flee for their lives, for their American neighbors threatened to kill any person remaining loyal to Britain and her king.
