Notes |
- Henry and Dora Gaiser owned and operated a grocery store in Neustadt, Ontario. This store was on Mill Street, as you enter Neustadt. As the children arrived they ate up all the profits so Henry switched to selling shoes.
Henry had a cobble by the name of Gottleib working in the store. There was a worn spot where he sat for many years. He would take a coffee break and go across the street to the hotel and fill up the honey pail for the Gaiser children for ten cents.
There was a shortage of electricity in the shoe store, having only one light bulb in the ceiling. At night they would pull the light bulb up to the second floor for lighting at night for the family.
There was a underground stream at the rear of the building in which the Gaiser's stored all the perishables.
Henry had the gallstone operation on the kitchen table on the second floor of the living quarters of the building. They placed the table in front of the bedroom window so he could have light.
