Bond of Thomas Hastings to Sarah Hastings July 8, 1853
Know all men by the presents that I Thomas Hastings of Markham in the united counties of York, Ontario and Peel in the province of Canada Farmer am held and firmly bound unto Sarah Hastings of said place __________ in the sum of five hundred pounds of good and lawful money of the province of Canada to be paid to the said Sarah Hastings, her certain attorney executors, administrators and every of them by these presents sealed with my seal and dated this eighth day of July one thousand eight hundred and fifty three.
Whereas Sarah Hastings of the township of Markham to beforementioned has the day of the date above written sold unto her Son Thomas Hastings the party bound by these presents all that and those _________ and tract of land comprising the East half of the clergy reserve lot number Thirty in the sixth concession of the township of Markham in the united counties of York Ontario and Peel in the province of Canada and also all the stock and farming implements at present upon and belonging to the said premises nevertheless the said Sarah Hastings reserves for her _________ sole use and benefit during the term of her natural life all the furniture and house plumbing at present in use and contained in the dwelling house upon said premises in the East half of the clergy reserve lot number Thirty in the sixth concession of the township of Markham aforesaid and that the said Sarah Hastings shall at any time previous to her demise dispose of or order to be disposed of in any manner she may think proper all the said _________ furniture and house plumbing without hindrance or opposition from any person or persons whatsoever.
The condition of this obligation is such that if the above ______ Thomas Hastings shall and do carefully and affectionately support maintain and keep in respectable apparel becoming her station and during her natural life his mother Sarah Hastings or cause his heirs executors, administrators or any of them so to do also on the event of Sarah Hastings aforesaid refusing to reside in the dwelling house and sit at the table with said ________ Thomas Hastings then and no such case if the said ________ Thomas Hastings his heirs executors administrators or any of them shall and do will and truly pay or cause the paid unto the aforenamed Sarah Hastings the sum of fifty pounds year and yearly during the full term of the natural life of the said Sarah Hastings the first payment being made upon the first day of January ______ ________ Sarah Hastings refusal to remain as _________ ________ and also fifty pounds to be paid in like manner upon the first day of January in each and every year said Sarah Hastings may demand her separate maintenance until the full expiration of the term of said Sarah Hastings natural life without fraud or delay each and every payment of fifty pounds in each and every year be of good and lawful money of the province of Canada then this obligation the ___________ default shall be made __ any of the conditions above written or in any of the payments of said sums upon the days and times herinbeforementioned and appr___ed for payment thereof respectively there to be and remain in full force and virtue.
