Notes |
- Conrad Fischer, a farmer married Margrate Sippel in Germany. Margrate's father was a fisherman on the Rhine River in Hessen, Darmstadt, Germany. Margrate and Conrad left Germany in 1851 departing from Port Bremen aboard the ship 'Stephani' bringing with them two boxes. They arrived at New York on August 5, 1851 and headed to Waterloo County, Ontario. Their eldest son, Conrad Jr. was born in Waterloo County the following year.
The birth locations of the children suggest that the family had relocated to Wallace Township, Perth County, Ontario by 1853. However the family appears in the census of 1861 for Wellesley, Waterloo County, Ontario. In 1862 Conrad acquired patent for Conc 4 Lot 42 S 1/2 Wallace Township and later also acquired adjoining property at Lot 43 S 1/2.
Conrad died of heart disease and apoplexy on March 21, 1902 at the age of 84. Margrate predeceased him on June 5, 1898.
