This artifact was located in the upper level of the driving shed at the farm settled by Thomas Hastings and Sarah Mitchell on the sixth concession of Markham Township. In the close up view, the number "2" is visible on the weapon and there also appears to be an indecipherable symbol below the number 2. |

I was born in Unionville, Ontario, 70 years ago last November 4 th, where also was born my father, the late William Eckardt, on March 11 th, 1824, and his father in 1798. My great-grandfather, Philip Eckhardt was born in what is now Norristown, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, July 23, 1759. His wife was of Danish origin. At that time..... |

- From the document dated July 1853 entitled "Bond Thomas Hastings to Sarah Hastings", the following is summarized. Sarah Hastings sold the farm comprising the East half of lot 30, concession 6, Markham Township to her son, Thomas Hastings. Thomas then promised that he would support his mother and that she could reside in the home for her remaining years. In addition, Thomas promised to pay his mother 50 pounds annually. Document was witnessed by William Hastings.
From the "Deed of Bargain and Sale" dated July 8, 1853 widow Sarah Hastings sold 100 acres of land to son, Thomas for eight hundred pounds.
