343 Conrad Dörr emigrated from Bleidenrod, Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany in 1844. Dörr, Conrad (I25022)
 
344 Conrad Fischer, a farmer married Margrate Sippel in Germany. Margrate's father was a fisherman on the Rhine River in Hessen, Darmstadt, Germany. Margrate and Conrad left Germany in 1851 departing from Port Bremen aboard the ship 'Stephani' bringing with them two boxes. They arrived at New York on August 5, 1851 and headed to Waterloo County, Ontario. Their eldest son, Conrad Jr. was born in Waterloo County the following year.

The birth locations of the children suggest that the family had relocated to Wallace Township, Perth County, Ontario by 1853. However the family appears in the census of 1861 for Wellesley, Waterloo County, Ontario. In 1862 Conrad acquired patent for Conc 4 Lot 42 S 1/2 Wallace Township and later also acquired adjoining property at Lot 43 S 1/2.

Conrad died of heart disease and apoplexy on March 21, 1902 at the age of 84. Margrate predeceased him on June 5, 1898.

346 Craftsman Lawrence N. Graham

Lawrence N. Graham was a member of the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, 4th Armd. Troops Workshop. He died in service overseas on December 16, 1944 and is buried at the Schoonselhof Cemetery in Belgium.

Lawrence Graham was the only son of John Wingfield Graham and Eliza Nellis Graham, of Rockwood. Lawrence's immigrant ancestor was John W. Graham who came to Guelph from the North of England in 1842. After losing his barn and crop to fire in 1873, the ancestor Graham then settled on Lot 2, Concession 7 of Eramosa Township.

348 Daniel emigrated to Canada about 1834. He settled in St. Catharines, Ontario and later moved to Glasgow Mills (later known as Bridgeport, Ontario). On November 5,1836, he met Theobald, his half brother (just arriving in Canada, via New York from Germany), with a wagon , in St. Catharines, Ontario, and took him and his wife and family ( Michael, Elizabeth, & Maria), to Preston, Ontario. Later, he moved to Zurich, Ontario, where he farmed on the Blind Line,(the first road east of Zurich). It was the third farm north of the no. 84 Highway. While in Zurich, they had 10 children, Valentin, Catherine (Mrs. Henry Wurm), John, Philip, Dan, Elizabeth, Adam, Jacob (who married Anna Neuschwanger, daughter of Mary Schumacher and John Neuschwanger), & Mary Ann (who married Wm. Schrader), and Anna born 1861 and died the same year. In the census of 1861, Daniel's surname is Zellers. Then in the 1871 census, it is changed to ZELLER.

351 Daniel Pool was raised in Markham Township, York County, Ontario. According to an article published in 1896 in Physicians and Surgeons of America, after public school in his native town, Daniel Pool attend at the Markham High School, the Hamilton Collegiate Institute and at the Waterdown High School. He was a public school teacher from 1875 to 1879 and then began his study of medicine with the late Dr John Reed of Thornhill, Ontario. The article also indicates that he studied for four years at the Medical Faculty at the University of Toronto and graduated in 1885. Upon graduation in 1885 he relocated to the United States, settling in St. Paul's, Minnesota. The 1900 census lists marital status as single. Frederick William Weiser (b. June 10, 1875 - Died Sept. 3, 1950), son of William Wieser (Weiser) and Delbertha Hermal, was born on the farm on the 12th Con. of Normanby Township. He went to the United States and worked on the railroad (Superior-Wisconsin) for a couple of years. He then came back and lived on the 2nd Concession before moving to Lot W1/2 42, Con. 2 in a log house (1905-1906). He settled there one year or more before marrying Mary Elizabeth Christina Hertzberger (B. Feb. 14, 1886 - D. July 21, 1946) on Jan. 23, 1907 in the Lutheran Manse, Mount Forest, Ont.

Fred built the stone house which is still there, before he was married. He was a stone mason by trade and operated a lime kiln. He and his brother William built many foundations and houses including the United Church foundation at Conn and Milford Bilton's barn foundation on the 14th of Egremont Township.

Fred lived in the log house and had to hurry at night to get his chores done as he was always called upon to fiddle at dances and house parties. Fred Jr. played a Jews Harp and harmonica.

The family of Fred and Mary Weiser went to school at U.S.S. #3, (Nenagh), Normanby Township. They went to Sunday School at Melville Presbyterian Church on the base line and they were christened at their grandmother Hertzberger's by the Rev. H. Bruer or Rev. F. Malinsky from St. James Lutheran Church, Lauderbach, Normanby Township.

359 Death of Henry Heise

In the calling away of Henry Heise at his home on Wednesday at 3 pm, Preston looses one of its oldest citizens. Some time ago it was found necessary to amputate his leg owing to blood poisoning and this with his age proved too much for the late gentleman. He was born in Muhlhausen, Germany, on April 10th, 1842, being at the time of his death in his 75th year. Besides a sorrowing widow he is survived by the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Geo. Kanmacher, Mrs. John Mumford, Mrs. C.C. Hahn, Miss Elizabeth, Miss Dorothy, Miss Lottie, Miss Clara, and Henry, Edward and William. His only surviving brother, Christian, resides at Galt. The funeral will take place on Saturday afternoon at 2:30pm from the family residence, Queen Street, to Preston Cemetery.
